An Evening with Pip Hare

Thu 3 Apr 2025

"More men have walked on the moon than women have completed the Vendée Globe which is all the inspiration I need to succeed" Pip Hare

Close your eyes and imagine a world class sailor, navigating one of the most powerful race yachts on the planet through the Southern Ocean for weeks on end. Imagine the rough ride inside the boat, travelling at the same speed as a car, lurching, crashing, thumping through waves. It is cold, wet, and dangerous. The skipper is surrounded by highly technical equipment which they must understand, maintain and use to perform. On deck, they must manhandle sails which weigh over 100 kilos on a moving platform, with waves breaking over the deck.

Are you imagining that skipper?

When you open your eyes, we bet Pip Hare is not what you expected.

In 2021 Poole based sailor, Pip Hare, became the 8th woman in history to ever finish the Vendee Globe single handed non-stop around the world sailing race.

Since finishing the race, she has gone on to establish the UK’s premier ocean racing team, here in Poole, continuing to drive and develop performance and qualifying to race again in the 2024 Vendee Globe.

Join us for an evening of discussion as Pip talks about her life on the water and on the land. Sharing the practical experience of racing a 60ft high performance boat at speeds up to 70kmph day in day out. She will talk about her mental strategies to stay resilient, motivated and focused, how she manages fear, deals with crises and lets the sheer joy of being on the water charge her up to perform.
