When a mysterious artifact is uncovered on the Moon, a spacecraft manned by two humans and one supercomputer are sent to Jupiter to find its origins.
Written by Kubrick with Arthur C Clarke, the story follows a voyage by astronauts, scientists, and the sentient supercomputer HAL 9000 to Jupiter to investigate an alien monolith. Avoiding conventional cinematic and narrative techniques, there’s little dialogue and sequences are accompanied only by works of classical music by Richard Strauss, Johann Strauss II, Aram Khachaturian, and György Ligeti.
